Syðri Brennihóll Horse Farm

Syðri Brennihóll Icelandic Horse Farm is located in Eyjafjördur, 6 km north of the town Akureyri. The horse farm has been in operation for over 40 years. The first two decades it remained a hobby farm with 2-4 brood mares. The breeding stock grew slowly, but for the last 20 years the horses have grown in numbers and at present counts about sixty.

All the horses at Syðri Brennihóll are descended from Brúnk,who won first price at Landsmót hestamanna. Most have turned out very good and some are exceptional horses. One of Brúnka's daughters was Jörp. She won 3rd price at "Landsmót hestamanna" held at Þingvellir in 1961. Jörp's granddaughter (Brúnka's great granddaughter) Elding, also won prestigious prices in competitions. All the brood mares at Sydri Brennihóll have received recognitions as good breeding stock.

A number of horses from Syðri Brennihóll farm have been exported to USA, Germany, Norway and Canada. Brúnka's descendants are strong , talented riding horses with good "tölt" which usually comes with ease, good nature, dependability and good endurance. They are totally free of all pranks and nastiness, rarely lazy and some are very spirited.
